Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Limited (KSEW) is the oldest Heavy Engineering Works of the country which is catering for its Ship Building, Ship Repairing, Submarine/Warship Construction and Heavy/General Engineering requirements. It has played a historical role in transferring of technologies and broadening the industrial base of the country. KSEW was established in early fifties as a project of PIDC. It was incorporated as a public limited company in 1957. Its paid-up capital is Rs. 464 million which is entirely owned by the Government of Pakistan. The company is managed by the Board of Directors with Managing Director as the Chief Executive. KSEW has pioneered implementation of Quality Management System ISO 9000 in Pakistani Industry. KSEW is providing a strong base for establishment of various industrial units necessary for the progress & prosperity of the country with collaboration of foreign designers & manufacturers.

Situated at West Wharf, Karachi, spread over an area of 29 hectares (71 acres). KSEW has a large Ship Building Hall, three Ship Building Berths, two Dry Docks, three Foundries (Iron, Steel & Non-Ferrous), Fabrication Shops, a well equipped Machine Shop and other supporting facilities like Carpentry, Pipe Fitting and Light Steel Fabrication Shop. KSEW is working as an autonomous commercial organization under the Ministry of Defence, Government of Pakistan.

Design & Drawing Offices, Building Berths, Fabrication Halls, Machine Shop, Fitting Shop, Carpentry, Electrical Installation Shops, Pipe Shops, Dry Docks, Repair/Outfits Quay walls, Ferrous/Non-Ferrous Foundries, Utilities etc.

Major Plant & Machinery
Shot Blasting Plants, Luffing, Mobile, Overhead & Magnetic Cranes, Automatic Oxy Cutting Machines, Heavy Bending, Dishing and Rolling Machines, Modern Welding Machines, including Sub-Merged Arc. Tig and Mig Welding Process, Heavy Lathes, Milling/Planning/Boring/Drilling and Sawing Machines, Stress Relieving Furnaces, Electric Arc Furnace, Induction Furnace, Cupola, etc.

Non Destructive Testing Facilities
Physical, Chemical, Metallographic Examination, Radiography, Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle and Dye-Penetrant tests for Welding. Also certified for Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement of Hull Structures & Pressure Vessels etc. for sheets of thickness range from 0.8 to 200 mm.
